Visualization Accessibility Study Recruitment

Call for Participants: We are inviting adults with low vision to join a research study on making data visualizations more accessible. If you are interested, please review the details below and fill out this 5 minute survey.

The study has been approved by our institution's Ethics Review Board (approval no. UT-IST-RE-250108)

About the researcher:

I am Yotam Sechayk (profile), a PhD candidate from The University of Tokyo. As a low-vision individual, accessibility is very important to me. With my work I hope to develop tools and solutions to provide easier visual access.

About the Study:

We are researching how individuals with low vision use novel tools to read charts and graphs. Your feedback will help us design better assistive technologies.

The study will take place remotely via Google Meet and last between 60-90 minutes. During your session, you will:
  • Answer brief demographic and background questions (such as your visual condition, assistive tools, and experience).
  • Share your video and screen as you interact with sample charts and graphs, and complete a simple quiz with multiple choice questions.
  • Participate in a short interview about your experiences with data visualizations.
Sessions will be recorded for research purposes and kept strictly confidential. No identifying information will be published, and recordings will be anonymized in research outputs.

Requirements:

  • You are an adult (18 or older) with low vision who uses your residual vision to read or view visual content, with or without assistive tools.
  • You have access to a laptop or desktop computer with a mouse or trackpad (tablets and smartphones are not allowed).
  • You can communicate smoothly in English.
  • You are available to schedule a study session between August 4th to September 2nd.

Compensation:

Participants will receive a $30 USD electronic gift card of their choice, typically delivered within 5 business days after completing the session.

Important Notes:

This study is not suitable for individuals who rely entirely on screen readers or braille displays to access visual information.
